Goalkeeper Chris Maxwell won his eighth Wales under-21 cap in Austria

An error from substitute goalkeeper Chris Maxwell cost the Wales under-21 side as Brian Flynn's men lost 1-0 in Tuesday's friendly in Austria.

The Wrexham goalkeeper had only just replaced Swansea's David Cornell when Alexander Grunwald's 35-yard free-kick slipped through his hands on the hour.

Joe Partington had gone close for an experimental Wales team in Parndorf.

Senior striker Sam Vokes put the ball into the Austrian net before the break but it was ruled to be offside.


Austria U21: Lindner, Margreitter, Grunwald, Piermayr, Hierlander (Kaufmann 45), Ilsanker (Mattes 68), Doleschal (Hammerer 59), Seidl, Holzmann, Nuhiu (Alar 61), Kragl (Prutsch 45).
Subs Not Used: Arnberger.
