Wales U-21s enjoy seeding boost

Brian Flynn
Coach Brian Flynn led Wales U21 to the brink of the Euro Championship finals

Wales Under-21 will be among the second seeds for the first time when the European Championship draw takes place in Denmark next month.

The Wales rookies are now ranked 16th in Europe - their highest ever placing - after their last campaign.

Brian Flynn's side won their qualifying group but lost a play-off against England for a place in the finals.

"People talk about the golden period, I think that has already started," youth guru Flynn told BBC Sport Wales.

"We've been in it for quite a while. Long may it continue."

The new generation of Wales Under-21s will discover their fate for the qualifying groups for the 2011 finals in Denmark at the draw on 4 February.

Once again the 10 group winners and the four best runners-up will qualify for the play-offs.
