Barry Town chairman John Fashanu
Barry chairman John Fashanu wants to sign more Nigerian players
Barry Town have signed Nigerian Adebayo Akinfenwa from Lithuanian side FC Atlantas.

The 20-year-old striker has impressed the Welsh Premier champions during a two week trial spell.

He is expected to make his debut in Saturday's league match at Welshpool.

A Barry Town spokesman described Akinfenwa, who has dual English and Nigerian qualification, as a "prolific scorer".

He added: "He will be named in the next Nigerian squad to prevent him qualifying for England."

Akinfenwa is the second Nigerian to join Barry since John Fashanu became club chairman.

Fashanu intends to use Barry as a base for promising African players and then selling them on at huge profits to top English clubs.

Nigerian goalkeeper Abu Baruwa joined the club in January.

Barry currently lie second in the Welsh Premier, four points behind TNS.
