Fashanu's plans for Barry
John Fashanu
John Fashanu has big plans for Barry
John Fashanu has outlined his vision for the future of Barry Town.

The former 'Crazy Gang' member was at Jenner Park for the first time on Tuesday night to see the Dragons win 3-2 against Caersws.

Fashanu has said he will be looking to showcase Nigerian football talent and will also want to build strong links will Sam Hamman's Cardiff City.

The former England international explained: "If you are going into an industry and you're next door to someone that you've known for the best part of 15 to 20 years, there has to be a tie-up.

"I would be disappointed if Sam didn't offer me some support, hopefully financially, but knowing Sam I don't think that will come that way."

Indeed Fashanu was quick to address the financial problems at Barry Town.

He said he will meet the necessary requirements, but unlike Hamman, he will not bankrole success.

"I will not write out big cheques," Fashanu added.

"If Sam has got players who are on high salaries sitting in the stands, then yes I think he would be foolish not to let us have a stage."

Fashanu will also look to utilise his links within Nigerian football to bring the next Kanu or Jay Jay Okocha to Wales.

"It's an opportunity to showcase one or two of Nigeria's excellent football players.

"I hope I will be appointed the Chairman of the Nigerian Premier League and use my involvement on the board of the Nigerian Football Association."

However that will only be possible if the players have represented Nigeria at international level.

One of the biggest lures to Jenner Park must have been the fact that Barry have the opportunity to play in Europe.

The fans have heralded his arrival as one of the best things to happen to the club.

But as an astute business man, Fashanu will surely see the European stage as the place to get the club back on its feet.
