Arsenal drawn against Ipswich in Carling Cup semi-final

Nicklas Bendtner scores for Arsenal against Wigan Athletic

Arsenal 2-0 Wigan

Arsenal will play Ipswich in the two-legged semi-final of the Carling Cup as they continue their quest to win a first trophy since 2005.

The Gunners beat Wigan 2-0 on Wednesday while Ipswich defeated West Brom 1-0 to reach the last four of the competition.

West Ham, who crushed Manchester United 4-0, play Birmingham, who beat Aston Villa 2-1, in the other semi-final.

The first legs are set to be played in the week commencing 10 January with the return leg two weeks later.

Ipswich are the only side in the last four not to have reached the final before.

Arsenal have won the trophy twice, in 1987 and 1993, and Birmingham were victorious in 1963, while West Ham have reached the final twice, losing on both occasions.
