Grant Holt's hat-trick helped Norwich thump Yeovil in the Carling Cup first round and put Saturday's 7-1 league defeat by Colchester behind them.

Wes Hoolahan put the Canaries ahead with a penalty after Scott Murray fouled Adam Drury.

Striker Holt added a second goal nine minutes later when he dispatched Simon Whaley's cross into the far corner.

Holt followed up after Tom Adeyemi's shot was blocked to make it 3-0 and his long-range drive completed the rout.

Norwich manager Bryan Gunn told BBC Radio Norfolk:

"The response is what we asked for and we got that, obviously we're all delighted in the dressing room.

"The 11 that started and the three subs that came on all applied themselves.

"The character the players showed, in light of what happened on Saturday, I knew we would get but we didn't get it until the end of the game."
