Ipswich win 4-2 on penalties

Ipswich survived a major scare against League Two side Shrewsbury to win a penalty shoot-out following a pulsating first-round Carling Cup tie.

Missed penalties from Jake Robinson and Graham Coughlan cost the Shrews as Ipswich scored all four spot-kicks.

Teenager Connor Wickham netted twice for Ipswich, with Alan Quinn added a goal with a 18-yard free-kick.

But an impressive home performance saw Robinson, Dave Hibbert and Shane Cansdell-Sherriff all hit the net.

Ipswich manager Roy Keane told BBC Suffolk he was pleased his mainly young team battled through to the second round:

"It was a great test for them against a good team who showed great fitness levels to end up going to extra time and penalties.

It was an experience that the players will hopefully enjoy and learn from."
