Blackburn 4-1 Grimsby

Blackburn survived the shock of going a goal behind to League Two Grimsby to run out comfortable winners and reach the Carling Cup third round.

Tom Newey's curling free-kick put Grimsby ahead after seven minutes.

Blackburn debutant Carlos Villanueva levelled with an excellent finish 10 minutes later, then set up a goal for Matt Derbyshire after 32 minutes.

Brett Emerton hit a third six minutes before half-time and Derbyshire added a fourth at the far post after the break.
