Rochdale 2-2 Stoke (aet)
Rochdale win 4-2 on penalties

Gary Jones scored the winning spot-kick to help Rochdale beat Stoke 4-2 on penalties in the Carling Cup after both teams shared four goals in 120 minutes.

Ryan Shawcross gave Stoke a fourth minute lead and they looked good for the win before David Perkins equalised late in the game.

Rory Prendergast's volley in extra-time gave Dale the advantage.

Richard Cresswell pounced to send the tie to penalties that saw Stoke miss two before Jones fired in the winner.


Rochdale: Spencer, Ramsden, McArdle, D'Laryea, Kennedy, Muirhead, Jones, Perkins, Rundle (Prendergast 76), Murray, Dagnall (Le Fondre 64).
Subs Not Used: Rigby, Crooks, Thompson.
