Adam Boyd scored one goal and made another to fire Leyton Orient past Championship side QPR and into the Carling Cup second round.
Boyd chased down a hopeful up-and-under and his heavy touch fell to Jason Demetriou, who shot in from 10 yards.
Lee Camp pushed Wayne Gray's header onto the bar to deny the visitors a second but Boyd made it 2-0 from the spot after Danny Cullip felled Gray.
Martin Rowlands, easily Rangers' best player, slid in to pull one back.
