Chelsea & Hammers face crowd rap
Police clash with fans at Stamford Bridge
The Football Association has charged Chelsea and West Ham for the crowd trouble which marred their Carling Cup tie on 27 October.

Striker Mateja Kezman had to have treatment to a head injury after being struck by a missile, believed to be a coin, thrown by a supporter.

Police in riot gear were also confronted by a section of the West Ham support after the match.

The two clubs have until 4 January to answer the charges.

The FA said: "Chelsea FC and West Ham United FC have been charged for the behaviour of their supporters during their Carling Cup match at Stamford Bridge."

The two clubs will have to answer "for their alleged failure to ensure that spectators...conducted themselves in an orderly fashion."

Chelsea insisted they will launch a stanch defence against the charge.

A statement on the club's website read: "Chelsea will vigorously defend a charge from the FA.

"The club will submit a full and detailed reply to the charge within the deadline specified."
