Northampton 0-3 Southampton
Southampton booked their place in the third round of the Carling Cup with a comfortable win at Northampton.

Southampton striker Kevin Phillips broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute when he met Fabrice Fernandes' cross.

The visitors doubled the lead three minutes later when David Prutton rifled home a half-volley from 20 yards.

And Southampton wrapped things up after 65 minutes when Neil McCann picked up Phillips' pass and side-footed past Cobblers keeper Paul Rachubka.
