Liam Boyce aims to catch the eye of Northern Ireland boss Nigel Worthington after his first call-up to the squad for the Nations Cup game against Scotland

Teenager Liam Boyce aims to ensure that his first call-up to the Northern Ireland squad will not be his last.

The Werder Bremen U23s striker, who began his career at Cliftonville, is in the panel to face Scotland in the Carling Nations Cup opener in Dublin.

"It would mean a lot to get the chance to prove how good I am and get into the next squad," said the 19-year-old.

"I couldn't believe my luck getting the call-up and hopefully I can become a regular in years to come."

Boyce moved to the Bundesliga club from Cliftonville for an undisclosed fee in September after scoring 19 goals in his debut season in the Irish League.

The young forward from west Belfast took a while to get to grips with life in Germany but he is now targeting promotion to the first team.

"I was not used to being alone so it was tough for the first couple of weeks," added Boyce.

"My girlfriend and a couple of friends came over to visit and this helped me settle in.

"Making the Northern Ireland squad is a great bonus for me and it should help me develop my club career.

"Maybe the club will hear about me more with Northern Ireland and it could help me get in the first team quicker."
