Lisburn Distillery book their place in the Co-operative Insurance Cup final by Crusaders 4-2 in a penalty shoot-out

Lisburn Distillery clinched a place in the Co-operative Insurance Cup final as they earned a penalty shoot-out win over Crusaders in Tuesday's semi-final.

After a goal-less first half, Gary Liggett put the Whites ahead on 73 but Jordan Owens levelled a minute later.

David Cushley restored Distillery's lead 10 minutes into extra-time but David Rainey replied within a minute.

Chris Morrow and Stuart Dallas missed the Crues penalties in the shoot-out before Mark Cooling's clinching strike.

Gary Browne, Glenn Ferguson and Cushley also were successful from the spot for the Whites with Martin Donnelly and Colin Coates notching Crusaders' penalties.

Whites keeper Billy Brennan's busy opening half was started as he pushed over a Darren Cassidy shot.

Distillery's only decent first-half chance fell to veteran striker Ferguson who headed over in the 16th minute when totally unmarked.

Brennan came to Distillery's rescue twice more before the break as he pushed Owens' dipping effort out for a corner and then tipped over a Cassidy free-kick.

The Whites took the lead on 73 minutes as Ferguson's cross-field pass sent Liggett charging towards goal and his shot beat Crues keeper Niall Murphy.

However, Crusaders were on terms within a minute as Owens nodded home at the back-post after a cross from sub David McMaster.

Crusaders' Michael Halliday hit the woodwork in the 77th minute while at the other end, Cushley's heavy first touch enabled Murphy to get down and save the Distillery sub's shot.

Cushley atoned for that miss by firing Distillery ahead in extra-time after Murphy had blocked his initial effort.

However, once again the lead lasted only a minute as Rainey's overhead kick beat Brennan after a Gareth McKeown throw in.

There were no further goals before the shoot-out as Distillery set up a final-meeting on 2 April against either Glentoran and Portadown who meet in the second semi-final at the Oval on Wednesday night.
