David Healy and Liam Boyce in NI squad for Scots clash

Northern Ireland manager Nigel Worthington explains the inclusion of Liam Boyce and the return of David Healy to his squad

David Healy returns to the Northern Ireland squad for the Carling Nations Cup game against Scotland while Liam Boyce earns a first senior call-up.

Northern Ireland's record goal scorer Healy was left out of the squad for the game against Morocco in November for the first time since his debut in 2000.

Over the weekend, Healy agreed a move to Rangers until the end of the season.

Former Cliftonville striker Boyce earns his call-up after his move to German club Werder Bremen in September.

Boyce has been scoring regularly for the Bremen outfit's under-23 side which effectively is the club's reserve team.

Northern Ireland face the Scots at Dublin's Aviva Stadium.

Manager Nigel Worthington said that Healy's move to Rangers was a "golden chance to get his career back on track".

Worthington added that he had picked his squad for the Scotland match early last week - ahead of Healy's move to Rangers.

"David Healy has played only 11 minutes of first-team football in January but he's now got this great move to Rangers," added Worthington.

"Liam Boyce has been scoring goals for his club (since his move to Germany) and I'm keen to use this opportunity to take a look at him."

Preston North End midfielder Adam Barton has been left out of the squad as he has not yet committed himself to the Northern Ireland cause.

Barton made his debut in November against Morocco but appears keen to keep open his options of playing for England.
