Newly-promoted Derry City have signed former Bray Wanderers and Drogheda United striker Eamon Zayed.

The 27-year-old has agreed a one-year deal with the First Division champions after being released by Sporting Fingal at the end of last season.

Dublin-born Zayed, voted the PFAI Young Player of the Year for 2003, recently won his first cap for Libya.

Zayed will be a direct replacement for Mark Farren whose career has been cut short by brain surgery.

Stephen Kenny's Derry returned to the Airtricity Premier League at the first attempt in October 2010.

Zayed was Drogheda's top scorer in their championship winning side of 2007 and won an FAI Cup medal with Sporting Fingal in 2009.

His father is from Libya and Zayed hopes to make their squad for the Africa Cup of Nations Cup in 2012.

Meanwhile, former Derry players Gareth McGlynn and Ruaidhri Higgins have been linked with a return to the Brandywell.
