Bottom club Donegal Celtic pull off a shock 2-0 win over champions and Carling Premiership leaders Linfield

Bottom-placed Donegal Celtic pulled off the biggest shock result of the Carling Premiership season by beating champions and leaders Linfield at Suffolk Road.

Darren McNamee shot in at the near post from Eamonn McAllister's cross to give Celtic a 21st-minute lead.

Linfield's Philip Lowry had a header cleared off the line and the leaders had a penalty claim turned down when the ball struck Ciaran Gargan's hand.

Ryan Henderson headed in DC's second in the 80th minute.

It followed a well-worked move with McNamee sending a great pass to Conor Glenholmes on the left and he supplied the cross for Henderson to cap a remarkable win for Donegal Celtic.

The result means back-to-back league defeats for Linfield who lost 3-1 at Cliftonville last time out.

"I have to apologise to the Linfield supporters for what was an abject, heartless, gutless performance," said Blues manager David Jeffrey.

"I am so disappointed and feel so let down. I am embarrassed.

"New year is cancelled. The players are back in tomorrow morning. They have got to realise what it means to play for this club."
