Linfield produce an emphatic display to beat Lisburn Distillery 4-0 at New Grosvenor

Linfield remain five points ahead at the top of the Carling Premiership after this thumping win at Ballyskeagh.

Alan Blayney saved a Gary Browne effort early on but Philip Lowry struck the visitors ahead on 23 and Peter Thompson doubled the advantage on 37 minutes.

Mark McAllister hit the woodwork before Glenn Ferguson, Philip Carson and Pat McShane wasted Whites half-chances.

Sub Robbie Garrett made the game safe for the dominant Blues on 82 and Thompson hit the fourth in injury-time.

McAllister had an early chance for the Blues but he lost his footing at the crucial moment and the ball was cleared.

Distillery responded well and Browne tested Blayney with a low shot which the Northern Ireland keeper did well to save.

The Whites then had an escape as Thompson hesitated after keeper Philip Matthews had failed to deal with a Lowry cross.

However, the Blues did take the lead on 23 minutes as Lowry reacted quickly to hammer home from close range after McAllister's initial shot had struck the goal-scorer.

Linfield doubled their lead eight minutes before the break as Thompson eventually fired home for his 19th goal of the season after being set up by the unselfish McAllister.

Thompson's initial point-blank shot was saved by Matthews but the striker toe-poked the rebound into the net despite Philip Simpson's efforts.

As Linfield continued to dominate after the break, McAllister headed against the woodwork before failing to get full purchase on his rebound, with Matthews making the save.

Former Blues favourite Ferguson and Carson had half-chances blocked and another ex-Linfield player McShane then inexplicably headed away from the danger zone when the visitors' defence appeared stretched.

However, the game was over as a contest when substitute Robbie Garrett fired in Linfield's third goal on 82 and Thompson added to his season's tally in injury-time.
