Linfield kept the pressure on Carling Premiership leaders Glentoran by clinching a comeback away victory over Donegal Celtic.

Ciaran Gargan put Celtic ahead on eight minutes and despite Blues pressure, the home side still led at the break.

However, Peter Thompson levelled in the 53rd minute after intense pressure and the striker put Linfield ahead on 73.

Robert Garrett sealed the victory with a goal in a classic counter-attacking move 12 minutes from time.

Gargan gave DC a surprise lead as he stabbed home Andy Cleary's cross in the eighth minute.

Chris Casement went close to levelling almost immediately as he headed against the woodwork and the Blues continued to dominate before the interval as they forced eight corners.

Celtic also suffered two injury blows before the break as Stephen McAlorum and his replacement Thomas Lambe were both forced off by injury.

No doubt after some stern words from David Jeffrey, Linfield upped the pace even more at the start of the second half and it was little surprise when Thompson levelled on 53 minutes.

As the Blues produced constant pressure, Thompson put the champions ahead 17 minutes from time with a close-range finish.

To their credit, Celtic attempted to rally but that only left gaps at the back which Garrett exploited ruthlessly as he ran from his own half to hammer past Declan Browne.

The goal keeps Linfield two points behind Glentoran and the Blues have a game in hand.
