Stephen Kelly and Darren O'Dea are out of the Republic of Ireland's Euro 2012 qualifiers against Russia and Slovakia.
Fulham defender Kelly is forced out by a calf injury while Celtic defender O'Dea, who is currently on loan at Ipswich, has a knee problem.
The withdrawals mean that uncapped Everton defender Seamus Coleman has been handed his first call-up.
Keith Treacy and Cillian Sheridan have also been put on stand-by by manager Giovanni Trapattoni.
Both were included in the original squad last week which now has been reduced.
The Republic top Group B on goal difference from Slovakia while Russia lie third.
Republic take on Russia at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on 8 October before travelling to Zililina for the Slovakia qualifier four days later.
