Eamon Doherty return boosts Crusaders squad

Crusaders have been boosted by the return of midfielder Eamon Doherty to the Seaview club ahead of Saturday's Carling Premiership trip to Portadown.

Doherty left the club last season because of cost-cutting after three successful years in north Belfast.

His return will increase the options available to manager Stephen Baxter as Ryan McCann is a long-term absentee after suffering a leg fracture.

Meanwhile Rory Carson is suspended for Ballymena United's trip to Coleraine.

The Sky Blues lie third in the table after their win over Glentoran on Tuesday night and a win on Saturday would see them move into second as the Glens play Linfield on Monday night.

The Bannsiders have moved off the bottom of the pile with two successive wins so a keenly contested derby fixture is anticipated.

In the day's other matches, Dungannon Swifts, who are now bottom, entertain Donegal Celtic and Lisburn Distillery host Cliftonville.
