Republic to host Uruguay in Aviva Stadium friendly
Diego Forlan celebrates after scoring for Uruguay at the World Cup
The Republic of Ireland will take on World Cup semi-finalists Uruguay in a Dublin friendly in March.
Giovanni Trapattoni's side will play the South Americans at the Aviva Stadium on Tuesday, March 29.
The game comes three days after the Republic take on Macedonia in a Euro 2012 qualifier at the same venue.
"After playing Brazil and Argentina this year, we now welcome another strong South American side," said Trapattoni on Thursday.
He added: "Having watched Uruguay in this summer's World Cup, I was impressed by their performance, particularly against Holland in the semi-final, when they were narrowly beaten.
"This game will act as further good preparation for the June qualifier, before our return leg against Macedonia."
Uruguay were the surprise team of the World Cup finals, with former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan named the player of the tournament after scoring five goals.
The Republic opened their qualifying campaign with victory over Armenia in Yerevan before a home win over Andorra earlier this month.
