Institute 0-1 Donegal Celtic

Stephen McAlorum struck with four minutes left to send Donegal Celtic back into the Carling Premiership.

The promotion/relegation play-off was scoreless after the first leg and there were few clear-cut chances at Drumahoe.

Institute's David Ogilby headed just wide before DC captain McAlorum fired past the post from 20 yards.

Shaun Holmes headed over just after the break and Paul McVeigh and Liam Watson went close for DC before McAlorum blasted into the bottom corner.

McAlorum was the first to threaten when his shot was comfortably saved by keeper Gavin Cullen.

Ogilby, who missed a late penalty in the first leg, was narrowly off-target with his backpost header.

Institute had Joe McCready back in their team and only a timely tackle from Barry Spence prevented the striker from having a clear strike on goal.

Holmes wasted Institute's best chance of the game seconds into the second half, with Sean Friars providing the cross and the midfielder heading over from eight yards.

Cullen kept out Watson's 30-yard drive before McVeigh shot across goal and wide.

The game was heading for extra-time when Institute failed to clear and McAlorum fired home the winner.

Institute now needed two goals to stay in the top flight but DC held on to condemn John Gregg's team to the Championship.

Donegal Celtic's return to the Premiership comes a year after they were beaten by Dungannon Swifts in the play-off.
