Coleraine's prolific striker Rory Patterson was named as Player of the Year at the Carling Football Writers' Awards on Monday night.

Patterson, who also won the Golden Boot award as top scorer with 41 goals, is set to join Glentoran this summer.

Linfield's double-winning boss David Jeffrey picked up the top manager honour while Cliftonville forward Liam Boyce took the young player award.

Former NI manager Billy Bingham was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Bingham famously led his team to the World Cup finals in 1982 and 1986.

As well as having two spells as Northern Ireland boss, Bingham was in charge of Everton from 1973 to 1977 and also managed the Greek national team, Plymouth Argyle and Irish League club Linfield.

Championship winners Loughgall scooped the junior team gong with Limavady's Paul Owens taking the top Championship player award.

The Merit Award went to Eric Halliday, a successful manager in junior football with clubs including Killyleagh, Moyola Park and Bangor.

Patterson is the first Bannsiders player to win the top honour since Felix Healy in 1982.

The former FC United of Manchester hitman made his Northern Ireland senior debut in March's friendly against Albania.

Patterson has signed a pre-contract with Glentoran for next season but the 25-year-old's long-term target is a return to the English game.
