Wexford Youths 1-5 Derry City

Stephen Kenny's Derry are currently second in the First Division

Derry City moved to within two points of First Division leaders Waterford by hammering Wexford Youths on Sunday.

Anthony Wolfe's own goal put Derry ahead on 16 minutes and Patrick McEleney (21) doubled the lead before Wexford's Chris Kenny was sent off.

McEleney made it 3-0 from a penalty on 50 minutes and James McLean struck Derry's fourth goal on 55 minutes.

A Mark McChrystal own goal (58) opened Wexford's account but Mark Scoltock notched Derry's fifth on 84 minutes.

Derry's win was their fifth victory in their opening seven matches.

They have 16 points from their opening seven matches - two behind Waterford, who had played the same amount of games.

Shelbourne are in third place - three points behind Derry.
