Glentoran interim boss Scott Young was delighted after the shoot-out victory over Coleraine in the Co-operative Insurance Cup final at Windsor Park.

"I'm absolutely overwhelmed and it means everything," said Young.

"We were fortunate and commiserations to Coleraine - it was a great final and good for the neutral.

"I asked the boys before the penalty shoot-out who was going to step up to the plate and there was no hesitation from the players."

He added: "I thought Coleraine looked dangerous everytime they hit us on the break.

"In my opinion they are as good an anyone going forward.

"I'm not a born and bred east Belfast boy but I love east Belfast and I love Glentoran - it's my dream job."

Aaron Canning missed Coleraine's first spot-kick and Young said he "couldn't believe" that the 18-year-old was given such a big responsibility.

However, Coleraine manager David Platt defended the decision and he was proud of his team's performance.

"You ask the players who is confident to take penalties and Aaron was fully confident he would score," he said.

"You have to trust that judgement and I am very disappointed for him.

"It is a cruel way to lose a football match, especially when we played extremely well.

"We had a very young team out there and a lot of local lads. They will be back here someday."
