Solitude pitch 'horrendous' - Linfield manager Jeffrey

Linfield boss David Jeffrey described the pitch at Solitude as "absolutely horrendous" following the 1-1 draw with Cliftonville on Tuesday night.

"The pitch was horrendous - it was very difficult for players to play anything like constructive football on it," said the Blues manager.

"To say it was frenetic and there was not much room wasn't really the case as it was hard to control the ball."

"That there were few goalscoring opportunities did not surprise me."

Jeffrey acknowledges that Cliftonville are trying to resolve problems with the surface and he added that a draw was probably a fair result.

Mark McAllister gave Linfield a first-half lead before Liam Boyce levelled 17 minutes from time.

Reds manager Eddie Patterson believes a few harsh words at half-time sparked a positive response from his players.

"We started off well for the first 10 minutes but we petered out, Linfield were on top for the rest of the half and rightly went 1-0 in front," he said.

"There was a bit of a 'saying to' at half-time - I didn't think we were playing to our capabilities.

"In the second half we worked a lot harder, showed a bit more belief, got forward more quickly and we justly got our equalisier."

Carling Premiership leaders Linfield stay four points clear of second-placed Cliftonville.
