Former Derry City and Linfield striker Thomas Stewart has signed for US club Carolina RailHawks.

The RailHawks play in Division 1 of the USL, which is the second-tier competition in the Unites States below the Major League.

The 23-year-old former Northern Ireland Under-21 international opted for the move to America despite having offers from Irish and English clubs.

Stewart left Derry City in November after the club entered administration.

RailHawks Scottish-born manager Martin Rennie remembered Stewart from his Northern Ireland Under-21 days and enticed the former Wolves apprentice to move to the US club.

The American season will start next month.
