Scott Young hopes to extend his stay at Glentoran

Glentoran's interim manager Scott Young aims to prove himself at the Oval and club chairman Aubrey Ralph is happy to have the Scot at the helm.

Glentoran manager Scott Young says he wants to retain the position beyond the end of his current deal which runs out at the end of this season.

Young was appointed after Alan McDonald resigned as Glens boss on Sunday.

"Of course I want it on a permanent basis, I would be foolish to say otherwise. It is one of the biggest jobs in the country," said Young.

"I am proud to be in this privileged position and I have eight weeks to make it work, It's not going to be easy."

Young added that it was "a massive surprise" to be offered the job by chairman Aubry Ralph.

"I can guarantee everyone that I'll be trying my hardest and giving it all I have got.

"The Glentoran fans expect their team to deliver and to play a certain brand of football. If they don't see that, they are not happy.

"I have eight weeks to try to rectify the situation and I want to put my own stamp on things and play my own brand of football, with the ball on the deck.

"That's easier said than done but what I want most of all is a passion for the jersey. If the players don't show that, they won't last with me.

"The league table doesn't lie and whether that is down to a lack of passion is for other people to judge.

"If players give me 100 per cent in every game they play for me then I can't ask any more.

"But if they are not performing, then they won't be in the team, no matter what their reputation.

"We play our biggest rivals Linfield this weekend and I will be making it clear to the players what it means to the fans and to the people of East Belfast."
