Glentoran beat Linfield 2-1 at Windsor Park to reach the Co-operative Cup semi-finals on away goals

David Jeffrey said Linfield's display "wasn't good enough" as the Blues were dumped out of the Co-operative Cup by bitter rivals Glentoran on Tuesday.

Linfield led 1-0 after the first leg at the Oval but Glentoran triumphed 2-1 at Windsor to win on the away goals rule.

"They (the players) don't become bad players overnight but we have got to arrest it," said Jeffrey after Linfield's second successive defeat.

"The way to do that is by working desperately hard."

Jeffrey again strongly hinted that he will aim to strengthen the Blues squad during next month's transfer window.

"We are on record that we are looking to rebuild the squad. There are areas we would like to improve."

Goals from Dean Fitzgerald and Daryl Fordyce saw the Glens win on the away goals rule.

One down from the first leg, Glentoran made it 1-1 on aggregate in first-half stoppage-time when Fitzgerald netted after a fine move.

A superb 16-yard finish from Fordyce put the Glens 2-0 up on the night.

Curtis Allen swept in Linfield's goal two minutes from the end but the Blues could not find the second they needed.
