'Derry players not happy' - Kenny

Derry manager Stephen Kenny
Stephen Kenny says the Derry dressing room is not a happy one

Derry City manager Stephen Kenny says his players are "absolutely not happy" as a result of the financial problems currently afflicting the club.

"There is a lot of discussion in the dressing room as players were expecting their wages this week and it didn't happen. There is some miscommunication.

"In three weeks' time there are eight players who don't know whether to sign again or for another club," he said.

"They don't know if they'll be on social welfare or will have to move."

Kenny was speaking after Friday night's 3-1 defeat by Galway United.

"Some players have some difficult decisions to make, about whether to move their families or move their girlfriends or themselves.

"Things are a bit at sixes and sevens at the club at the minute and it's been a bit of a disaster this season with everything that's going on.

"But the reality is that, despite all that, we still have a good chance of qualifying for Europe.

"There is a lot of tension in the group but we have to get on with it and can't afford to feel sorry for ourselves.

"It was a bad night for us and Galway deserved their win - Gareth McGlynn scored a good goal but we were guilty of poor defending."
