Joe Gamble's 37th-minute strike was enough to give Cork City victory in Saturday's opening match in Group One of the Setanta Cup.

Gamble tapped in after Neal Horgan's right-wing cross had been knocked back by Billy Dennehy.

Just before the goal, Cliftonville skipper Chris Scannell headed over from a good position.

Late in the game Ryan Catney saw a shot deflected wide while Ciaran Caldwell fired over from the edge of the area.
