Dungannon preserved their Premiership status with an away goals play-off win over Donegal Celtic although DC may launch a legal challenge.

Timmy Adamson's 29th-minute goal won the promotion/relegation play-off on the pitch as the Swifts withstood late DC pressure to win the tie.

It was a tense encounter but with few clearcut chances.

Dungannon finished bottom of the Premiership and DC believe that should have resulted in automatic relegation.

But a large turnout of Swifts fans celebrated with the Dungannon players after Friday's game, convinced that the Tyrone club's Premiership place had been secured.

Dungannon bossed the early exchanges and Terry Fitzpatrick fired just wide on four minutes.

Donegal Celtic goalkeeper Declan Browne had to move smartly in the 25th minute to stop a Ryan McIlmoyle effort after good work by Marc McCann.

McCann was then involved in the decisive goal as he beat two defenders before crossing for Adamson who fired low past Browne.

Rodney McAree went close to doubling the Dungannon lead on 52 minutes but DC then began to take control of the contest.

Despite Donegal Celtic's dominance of possession, they lacked a cutting edge in the final third of the field although Tony Heagney missed a decent chance four minutes from time.

With DC committing bodies forward, Conor Forker had a late chance on the break for the Swifts but Browne made the save.
