Portadown win promotion to the Premiership by clinching the Championship title at Donegal Celtic

Portadown clinched promotion to the Irish Premiership by beating Donegal Celtic 2-0 in Saturday's crunch Ladbrokes.com IFA Championship clash.

A David Munster own goal put the Ports ahead in the first half while Gary McCutcheon added the second late on.

Despite their defeat, DC will be involved in a promotion-relegation play-off after Loughgall were beaten 3-1 at home by Ballinamallard United.

DC will face Dungannon in the play-off first leg at Suffolk Road on Tuesday.

Victory would have earned DC direct promotion and a estimated windfall of around £100,000.

But the Ports dominated for the most part at Celtic Park.

An early fumble by goalkeeper Declan Browne almost gifted Portadown an early opener although Eamon McAllister wasted a great chance for DC after lobbing over the crossbar with only Neil Armstrong to beat.

However, the Ports took a deserved lead on 36 minutes when Shannon diverted a McCutcheon cross into his own net.

McCutcheon went close to adding a second goal on 55 minutes as the Ports continued to dominate.

DC posed little threat in the second half with a Liam Watson header, which was comfortably saved by Armstrong, the only attack of note.

McCutcheon completed Portadown's promotion by striking the second goal a minute from time after good work by Tim Mouncey.

At Loughgall, Neil Alderdice put the home side ahead on eight minutes but goals from Darren Higginbottom (42), Cathal Beacom (75) and Andy Crawford (83) earned Ballinamallard a comfortable win.
