Marty Quinn enjoyed a winning start to his Glenavon reign as the Lurgan Blues defeated battling Newington in Tuesday's JJB Sports Irish Cup tie.

Conor Walsh lashed in Glenavon's opener on 20 minutes after Newington had failed to clear an Eamon Murray corner.

Gavin Taggart went close for Newington before Tony Grant doubled Glenavon's lead on 81 minutes.

Sean Adams pulled a goal back for Newington but sub Paul Carvill notched Glenavon's third in injury-time.

Carvill's goal came after Newington goalkeeper David Gibson had failed to deal with a Murray cross.
