Glentoran's 3-0 win at New Grosvenor takes them back to the top of the Premiership

Glentoran moved back to the top of the JJB Sport Premiership as Kyle Neill's two goals helped see off the Whites.

Neill struck the opener on three minutes from a penalty after Ryan McCann had been penalised for handball.

The second came direct from Neill's 30th-minute corner and the Whites then had Philip Matthews sent off.

Matthews had rashly challenged Gary Hamilton and his stand-in replacement Darren Armour was beaten by Andy Waterworth on 74 minutes.

Matthews went into the game after picking up the Northern Ireland Football Writers player of the month award for December during the week.

However, he will have nightmares about Neill's second goal as he allowed the wind-assisted corner to go straight into the net.

Possession wise, there were little to separate the sides in the first half.

However, the Glens scored the goals with Neill ramming in the early penalty with referee Adrian McCourt adjudging that McCann had handled.

Paul Hamilton had Distillery's best first-half chance but Glens keeper Johnny Taylor made a smart save.

After Neill's second goal, Armour had a chance to pull one back before the break but Johnny Black put in a great tackle.

Distillery's goose was cooked when Matthews received his marching orders for his reckless challenge on Gary Hamilton.

Hamilton looked through on goal before being upended by the goalkeeper.

Substitute Waterworth hit Glentoran's third goal 16 minutes from time with a superb shot as the Oval outfit continued to regroup from their festive stumbles.
