Cliftonville are up to sixth after their 3-1 win at the Ballymena Showgrounds

Cliftonville's victory at Ballymena Showgrounds has lifted the Reds up to sixth in the JJB Sports Premiership.

Mark Holland headed in a 14th-minute opener after home keeper Alan Blayney failed to claim a Francis Murphy cross.

Chris Scannell followed up for number two after Blayney had parried Holland's initial effort on 29 minutes.

Ballymena's Michael Ward shot in off a post just before half-time but Barry Johnston's ball sent Murphy through to restore the two-goal advantage.

"We knew we had to score when we had the strong wind behind us in the first half," said Scannell whose goal took him on to 99 for Cliftonville.

"We got the two goals but were disappointed to concede just before the break and Eddie Patterson let us know about it.

"The conditions were difficult but we were worth the win and are starting to put a run together now."
