Reds boss Patterson gets backing

Eddie Patterson
Eddie Patterson has pledged to stay on at Solitude

Eddie Patterson says he is determined to stay on as Cliftonville manager after receiving backing from the club's chairman and committee members.

The wave of support followed reports that Patterson had been threatened with the sack by an unnamed club official after the 2-1 defeat by Linfield.

"I was basically told Saturday's performance was not good enough," Patterson told the News Letter.

"I could walk away but I am doing this job for the players more than anyone."

Cliftonville had a difficult start to the season when they were unable to play matches at home because a new stand was being built at Solitude.

At one stage they were one from bottom in the JJB Sports Premiership but are now up to eighth.

Patterson added: "The players will not let these comments bother them.

"They are all committed to working hard and helping the club climb up the table.

"It is finished business now."
