Smith goes missing from Portadown

Striker Andy Smith has gone missing from Shamrock Park

Portadown manager Ronnie McFall says striker Andy Smith has not trained with the club for more than two months.

"He hasn't appeared here for over two months so I don't know what has happened with the lad. It's basically his problem," said the Ports boss.

"He has made it clear by his absence that he has no future at the club.

"It disappoints me but very little surprises me in football. I will work with the players who are here and are fully committed to the club."

McFall was pleased with his side's 2-0 Co-Operative Insurance Cup, first leg, win over Linfield on Tuesday night but says promotion from the Championship is his main aim.

"It was important to keep a clean sheet when a tie is over two legs and I lost count of how many one-on-ones we had with their goalkeeper.

"But we are not getting carried away - Linfield are the number one team in the country and it is only half-time in the tie. We are expecting another very hard game at Windsor Park in the return.

"While it is good to be playing the likes of Linfield again, our number one objective is to get out of the Championship.

"I have every confidence and belief that our players will achieve that target."
