Derry are through to the Setanta Sports Cup semi-finals for the first time after a deserved win at Richmond Park.

City keeper Gerard Doherty saved early shots from Derek O'Brien and Keith Fahy before the visitors took control.

Barry Molloy and Gareth McGlynn went close before Kevin McHugh scored the only goal on 33 minutes with a 16-yard shot past keeper Barry Ryan.

Derry were rarely troubled in the second half and Niall McGinn fired just over for Derry with four minutes left.

Stephen Kenny's team are three points clear of Linfield at the top of Group Two with St Pat's and Glentoran a further two points back.

City's Eddie McCallion is suspended for the final group game against Linfield after picking up a first-half booking.

The Candystripe's victory is perfect preparation for Saturday night's Eircom League Cup final against Wexford Youths.
