Mark Miskimmin's late goal earned Linfield an extremely fortunate win over an impressive Crusaders side in Saturday's JJB Premiership clash.

Crusaders' Aaron Black missed a first-half penalty while Eamon Doherty also headed a great chance wide for the dominant visitors.

After the break, David Rainey went close to putting the Crues ahead.

The Blues misfired for most of the contest but substitute Mark Miskimmin scrambled a 79th-minute winner.

Crusaders were looking for their first league win at Windsor Park since October 1996 but Stephen Baxter's side appeared to have no inferiorty complex against the league champions.

Former Blues man Dickson had an early half-chance for the Crues but his first touch was poor and the opportunity was lost.

Dickson then had the ball in the Linfield net but the effort was correctly ruled out for offside.

Linfield's only first-half chance fell to veteran striker Glenn Ferguson but the former Northern Ireland striker volleyed well wide after Michael Carvill's nod-down.

Crusaders should have taken the lead on 27 minutes after Conor Hagan had fouled David Rainey in the penalty area.

However, Black took a short run-up for his spot-kick as his scuffed effort hit the base of a post before being cleared.

The superb Martin Donnelly then created a great chance for Eamon Doherty in the 42nd minute but the former Derry City man headed over.

Crusaders were not quite as impressive in the second half but they continued to look the better side.

Rainey was inches away to putting the Crues ahead once again and there was the suspicion that the visitors could pay for their failure to translate territorial dominance into goals.

David Jeffrey, whose half-time team talk could be heard in the Windsor Park corridors, attempted to get his side going by introducing Miskimmin midway through the second half.

The sub struck the winner from close-range in the 79th minute after a rare moment of slackless in the Crusaders defence as Carvill beat a couple of challenges and fired in a dangerous low ball.
