Ervin looks in agony after suffering his knee injury on Saturday
Linfield's Jim Ervin is likely to be out for around nine months because of medial and cruciate ligament damage.
Scans have revealed the extent of Ervin's injury which he sustained in Linfield's 0-0 Carnegie Premier League draw against Glentoran on Saturday.
It's not yet clear whether Steven Douglas will join Ervin on the sidelines for the Irish Cup final.
Douglas is in line for a one-match ban but it's not known if the ban will come into effect on cup final week.
Linfield face Coleraine in the decider on 3 May and there is confusion whether the suspension will date from 21 April or 28 April.
Douglas was booked in the Blues' 0-0 league draw against Glentoran.
Coleraine goalkeeper Davy O'Hare could also miss the cup decider because of a calf muscle injury.
O'Hare was forced to leave the field early in Saturday's 2-0 defeat by Ballymena and his understudy Lawrence McCormick could now be in line to play on 3 May.
