Newry and Donegal Celtic plan to play on a Sunday
A Sunday fixture between Newry City and Donegal Celtic will not take place until the removal of the Sabbath ban on 1 June next year.

It was reported that the clubs were seeking permission to play a Carnegie Premier League game at the Newry Showgrounds on 27 January.

But Donegal Celtic issued a statement on Friday saying that no specific date or fixture was discussed with Newry.

DC have agreed to play Newry home and away on a Sunday after the ban ends.

Cliftonville are also on record as saying that they supported moves to allow Sunday football.

Donegal Celtic believe Sunday matches could attract more fans.

In particular, Donegal Celtic officials believe that Sunday games would be more family-friendly.

DC have been making efforts to cultivate links with ethnic minorities and 600 recently turned up to a Chinese day at the club which was held on a Sunday.
