David Rainey celebrates his goal for Crusaders
|
Holders Glentoran have been beaten by Crusaders in the semi-final of the CIS Cup at Windsor Park.
Former Glentoran forward David Rainey netted the winner in first-half stoppage-time to send the Crues through to the 8 December final.
Rainey headed in from Stephen McBride's cross for his 14th goal of the season.
In the first half Crusaders goalkeeper Aaron Hogg saved from Daryl Fordyce while Glentoran's David Scullion saw a shot blocked by David Magowan.
After the interval Gary Hamilton fired a free-kick straight at Hogg.
Late on Crusaders' Darren Lockhart made a fine blocking challenge to thwart a shot from Glens substitute Dean Fitzgerald.
Then Glens keeper Elliott Morris dived to fingertip away a shot from Chris Morrow.
It was swift revenge for Crusaders after being beaten 2-1 by Glentoran in the County Antrim Shield final just seven days earlier.
And it meant a first domestic defeat of the season for Alan McDonald's team.
