Linfield midfielder Conor Downey has been told he will not play again this season after a scan on his knee injury.
Conor Downey needs surgery on his knee injury
Downey, who joined the champions from Cliftonville in January, was carried off during Monday's Setanta Cup match against Glentoran.
Downey needs surgery on the cruciate ligament in his left knee and could be out for six to eight months.
"I am devastated for the lad. We will do all we can to help him," said Linfield manager David Jeffrey.
The loss of 24-year-old Downey is a huge blow to the Blues as they face the title run-in and also push for silerware in the Irish and Setanta Cups.
