Any slim prospects of Northern Ireland manager Lawrie Sanchez becoming the next Portsmouth boss ended on Wednesday when Harry Redknapp was appointed.
On Monday, the Irish FA gave Portsmouth permission to talk to Sanchez but Redknapp was always their main target.
"While I was flattered to be considered, the past few days have been unsettling," said Sanchez on Wednesday.
Sanchez reaffirmed his commitment to the Northern Ireland job and the European Championship campaign.
IFA president Jim Boyce said that he was "delighted that Lawrie will be remaining in a full-time capacity with Northern Ireland".
"We must also recognise the compliment paid to the IFA, that Lawrie is in demand and will continue to be so," said Boyce.
