Cup final abandoned in snow storm
Referee Hugh Carville abandoned the Steel final at Seaview
Bangor and Glentoran II players leave the Seaview pitch
The traditional Christmas morning Steel and Sons Cup final had to be abandoned because of heavy snowfall at Seaview.

Intermediate football's showpiece game between Bangor and Glentoran II has now been rescheduled for Wednesday 29 December at the same venue (1930 GMT).

The score was 0-0 when referee Hugh Carville called a halt on 68 minutes.

"The referee had little option. It had reached a stage when it was impossible to see the lines on the pitch," said Co Antrim FA official Fred Magee.

The team managers agreed with the decision to abandon the game.

"It would have been a controversial victory for either team had he played on. I am quite happy with the decision," said Bangor boss Eric Halliday.

Glentoran II manager George Bowden said he was worried players could have been hurt.

"It was obvious the weather was closing in and things were not going to improve," he said.

"Players came into the dressing room absolutely soaking and freezing."
