Wells gets top job at Irish FA

Howard Wells worked at Ipswich Town and Watford
Experienced sports administrator Howard Wells is to become the Irish Football Association's first chief executive.

Wells, a former goalkeeper with Wycombe Wanderers, is a former chief executive of Watford and Ipswich Town.

He was the inaugural chairman of UK Sport and also chaired the Central Council of Physical Recreation

The Irish Football Association will officially unveil Wells as chief executive at a media conference in Belfast on Friday.

The post was created as part of the reorganisation of Northern Ireland football under the government's soccer strategy.
