Hughes yet to sign new contract
Wales manager Mark Hughes
Wales have gone unbeaten under Hughes this year
FAW Secretary General David Collins told BBC Sport that Wales manager Mark Hughes has yet to sign his new contract.

Collins insists that the deal is "done and dusted", though, and that the delay is only because Hughes' mind has been on the Italian game.

Hughes has got a determined streak in him and he instils that in the players
Sir Alex Ferguson
Hughes had a reputation as a player for taking time over his contracts, and the papers are thought to be in the hands of his lawyers.

Collins also revealed that the tickets for Wales' next home game against Azerbaijan in March should be on sale before Christmas.

Hughes' salary will nearly double to around 150,000 under the new contract.

That figure will also rise substantially if Hughes becomes the first manager since 1958 to lead Wales into the finals of a major international tournament.

Ryan Giggs says Hughes has been terrific
Fergie's favour

Sparky's skills as a manager were endorsed in a BBC Wales interview with Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Ferguson described his former player's calm, forthright approach to the game.

"He's got a determined streak in him and he instils that in the players," said the United boss.

"Hughes is not a ranter or a raver - he's measured.

"He's studying the game now, going for his badges - you have to do that these days.

"I spoke to Ryan Giggs and he said that Mark's been absolutely terrific."
