Reid's debut delight
Robbie Keane scored two second half goals

Andy Reid enjoyed his first taste of senior international football on Tuesday as the Republic of Ireland beat Canada 3-0 in Dublin.

Nottingham Forest midfielder Reid impressed in the Lansdowne Road clash, which Brian Kerr's men won thanks to a wonder goal from Damien Duff and a Robbie Keane brace.

And Reid said afterwards: "It was great to play with some quality players - a real pleasure.

"I really enjoyed it and want more of it now - I'll be doing my best for my club to try and get back in next time.

"We had the better chances and played the better football."

Keane is now just three goals behind Niall Quinn's international record of 21 after his double against the Canadians - the first of which was a header.

And the Tottenham striker added: "I don't usually score many goals with my head - but all I can do is keep scoring.

That there were only 25,000 here to see Damien Duff tonight amazes me
Ireland manager Brian Kerr

"I think our performance was solid.

"Richard Dunne has only been with us for a few days but he was superb - and Andy had a superb first game".

Irish boss Brian Kerr described the win as "very convincing".

"I was pleased to give action to plenty of players - but some didn't get as long as I would have liked.

"Graham Kavanagh was very unfortunate - but the word I've got is that the injury is not very serious.

"He's definitely twisted his ankle but we don't believe it's broken".

Kerr, who was also impressed by Andy Reid's contribution, hailed Damien Duff's wondergoal which broke the deadlock in the first half.

We didn't take our chances tonight
Canada boss Colin Miller

"That there were only 25,000 here to see Damien tonight amazes me - if I was a parent or a child I'd want to see him any opportunity he is in Dublin.

"I thought Canada were a bit unlucky.

"Shay Given made two fantastic saves at crucial points in the game - which could have changed things".

Canada manager Colin Miller thought the result flattered the hosts.

"They are a quality side and I couldn't have asked more of my players - other than in front of goal.

"I'm proud of the players tonight. They've shown they can play at this level.

"We had a go as best we could but the difference at this level is taking your chances - and we didn't take our chances tonight".
